A Scottish Air (PDF)

A Scottish Air (The Rowan Tree) is a Scottish song with lyrics written by Perthshire-born Carolina Oliphant (Lady Nairne), 1766-1845, who was a song writer and collector of Scottish songs. The origin of the tune is unknown and first appeared in R.A. Smith’s Scottish Minstrel (1822). This arrangement of this beautiful Scottish tune provides young bands with two contrasting styles to explore, firstly a slow melody featuring a flute solo, and then a stately march at bar 30.
